School History
Immaculate Conception Academy is one of the educational institutions once administered by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit. It was founded on July 1, 1963, with Rev. Fr. Victorio Ligot, the parish priest, as the first director, and two S.Sp.S. Sisters who assisted him in the administration of the school. The enrollment was small (35 students) so that only first year high school was opened that year 1963. By the year 1964 – 1967, ICA became a complete High School for boys and girls.
The main school building was the high school building now known as the St. Arnold Janssen Building, located beside the Roman Catholic Church. The Sisters’ convent was built behind it amidst the ruins reminiscent of the Spanish rule of government. The main elementary building, now named Bl. Maria Building is situated at the back of the Sisters’ convent.
The elementary department of ICA was formerly the Immaculate Conception Parish Elementary School (ICPES) founded in June 1981 by Msgr. Juan R. Ballesteros, who was also the first director of the school. It began with a nursery class of 35 children and three sections of Kindergarten tots, 150 children in all. They occupied the ground floor of the Parish Hall Building. The foreseen transfer of the director of the school prompted the ICA PTA Board of Officers headed by Mrs, Elena Nalupta, to request the S.Sp.S. Superiors to absorb the parish elementary school. The full administration and management of the Immaculate Conception Parish Pre-Elementary, was transferred by the Bishop of the Diocese of Laoag, Msgr.Edmundo M. Abaya, to the S.Sp.S. Congregation under the name of the Provincial Superior, Sr. Lucy Agnes Singson,S.Sp.S. with the Memorandum of Agreement made and executed on December 16, 1987. Since June 15, 1987, the Immaculate Conception Academy became an institution offering complete pre-elementary, elementary and secondary courses for boys and girls. The last two sections of elementary pupils using the classrooms of the Parish Hall Building were transferred to the Bl. Maria Building in 1994.
Under the administration of the S.Sp.S. Sisters, the succeeding years brought development in the school’s plant and facilities. In 1989, the first floor of the Bl. Josepha Building was put up, through the leadership of Sr. Ely Ann Peñaranda, S.Sp.S.. In 1992, the second floor was constructed under the administration of Sr. Mary Pauline Tamayo, S.Sp.S.. Two years after, the stage was built to showcase the stage plays and varied activities of the school. To accommodate the instructional needs of ICA’s growing population, the Trinity Building was conceived and born in 2003, with the indefatigable efforts of Sr. Christophine Ragasa, S.Sp.S..The three-storey building where the Learning Resource Center and Activity Area are on the third floor. It also houses in the first floor the Prayer Room, Office of the Principal, Office of the Treasurer and Registrar, Clinic and room for the Kindergarten, Grades 1, 5 and 6. On the second floor are the Audio Visual Room, Elementary and Secondary Computer Laboratories and Senior High School Classrooms. The canteen was extended with an eating area beside the convent. The canteen’s adjacent rooms in the Bl. Maria Building were restructured into a bookstore and classrooms for Grades 2, 3 and 4. On Wings of the Spirit, the school keeps the Rosary Garden and the multi-decorated bulletin boards along the covered walk from the main gate. The strong dedication and commitment of the new administrators and the faculty and staff, the selfless service of the I.C. A. Alumni Association and the active involvement of parents, students and pupils gave rise to infrastructure projects of the school like the Covered Court and the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Building with four (4) classrooms.
In pursuit of quality and relevant basic education and afire with the spirit of excellence, the school community keeps itself rooted in the spirituality of its Founder, St Arnold Janssen. The administrators, faculty and staff and the student body continuously strive to attain a high standard of performance, as attested to by the Department of Education through the Fund for Assistance to Private Schools (FAPE) during its recertification visit.
Immaculate Conception Academy continues to intensify its endeavor to realize its vision, mission and goals and earnestly seeks for further improvement in all aspects.
In 1988, ICA took a huge step by transferring from Magallanes Village to Better Living Subdivision in compliance with the requirements of Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS until 1994, become Department of Education or DepEd since 2001 to present) for a complete Elementary to Secondary courses. ICA’s stay in Better Living Subdivision lasted for three years until they have decided to move in their new home.
In 1991 ICA home, as we knew today, was established at 4504 Extra Extension, Fourth Estate Subdivision, Sucat, Parañaque City. Since then ICA has produced thousands of students who have become great leaders and models in their respective fields.
Today, ICA continues their advocacy on thrusting forward to produce God-fearing and Bible-believing students and to become agents of change both in Spiritual and applied Academics in the community for the glory of God.
